A scavenger hunt is a fun, interactive activity for the summer vacation! Kids (and parents!) can search for specific items or complete simple challenges by following a list of clues or prompts. It encourages exploration, teamwork, observation, and problem-solving in an enjoyable way. What a great way to learn while solving clues, riddles at locations like parks, downtown areas, or museums. It can also transform standard sightseeing into an exciting, competitive adventure. We learned of a few FREE Scavenger Hunts in Connecticut this summer for you to explore. Norwalk: Families can celebrate America’s birthday by discovering Americans who made a difference over our 250-year history. Learn about those people who helped shape and improve lives for others in this country by searching for, reading and answering questions about these unsung heroes! Waterford: Another America 250 history themed interactive activity through September 6. Here’s the overview:
- To participate, you will need to download the app: The World’s Most Customizable Scavenger Hunt App | Eventzee and enter the code: 25C560
- There are clues listed. When you get close enough to the destination, the next clue will will populate automatically.
- Explore historic sites, Learn and discover Waterford hidden or secret gems and win prizes along the way!
- There’s a kickoff event June 6th, 10a-12p, with a historical photobooth, give-a-ways, prizes, and so much more! Join us for some fun on the sidelawn at the Waterford Public Library!

A big one coordinated by the Southington Library is the Dinosaur Containment Program – it takes place in many, many towns until August 21! Find dinosaurs hiding in libraries, state parks, and museums this summer!

Farmington: Community Chest Summer Treasure Hunt is a free local program where families follow weekly clues released on social media to search for a hidden treasure chest somewhere in town. Kids can win prizes every week.
There are hunts organized by Watson Adventures throughout Connecticut to explore for a fee:
- The Heart of Hartford Scavenger Hunt: Features Bushnell Park and the Old State House, where kids (usually ages 7+) work with adults to solve riddles, explore historical landmarks, and complete photo challenges.
- Puzzling Adventures: A self-guided, app-led walking tour that functions as an Amazing Race mixed with a scavenger hunt. Families are given puzzles and questions to answer at each location before getting their next set of instructions. There is a fee.
