Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend Family Activities in CT offers educational and fun #familytime to honor one individual who dared to change. Throughout January 18 – 20 several museums and organizations will host special events including free admission!  Here is a look at some of the places honoring Martin Luther King Day with special event around Connecticut:

Monday, Jan 20 ( 9 AM-  PM): MLK Day Kindness Event for Children (Newtown, CT)
Have your child spend their day off learning about how incorporating random acts of kindness into our daily lives makes our community a better place. Children will be participating in an “Acts of Kindness Factory” and will leave with a Kindness Tool Box filled with challenges to complete. This is open to kids in grades K-8. Monday, Jan 20 ( 10 AM- 4 PM): MLK Jr. Community Day (Hartford, CT)
Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his unending legacy with free admission for all, tours, art activities, and film at the Wadsworth Atheneum’s Community Day “Reflections”  in in partnership with The Amistad Center for Arts & Culture in Hartford with art activities and live music. Monday, Jan 20 ( 10 AM- 4 PM): MLK Jr. Family Day (Greenwich, CT): 
The Bruce Museum will be hosting family activities in honor of Dr. King in the Education Workshop. African American storytelling by Eshu Bumpus will be offered at 11am and again at 1pm, free with museum admission. More info here

Monday, Jan 20 (11 am – 2:30 pm): Community Film Screening in order of Martin Luther King Day (Hartford, CT) :
Three moving documentary films that brilliantly evoke the Civil Rights Movement. These films demonstrate the potential for individuals to bring about positive social change and to serve as advocates and leaders in their communities. Hosted by Real Art Ways. Free Admission. More info here

Monday, Jan 20 (11 am – 4 pm): Community Film Screening in order of Martin Luther King Day (Hartford, CT) :
Martin Luther King Day is the perfect day to practice “good visioning” and visit the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. Join us to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Harriet Beecher Stowe. All day we will be sowing seeds of love and learning while also exploring issues and ideas that continue to inform our collective ideas of justice and civility today. The Stowe Center will create an environment of inspiration all day with the hope that visitors will be motivated to action – write a love letter, take a tour, share a snack, and explore issues at the midday Salon at Lunch. The campus is open to the public from 11 am – 4 pm. Everything is free and audiences of all ages are encouraged to participate. More info here

Monday, Jan 20 (12 pm-4 pm): Community day at New Britain Museum (New Britain, CT) 
At the New Britain Museum of American Art visitors can enjoy FREE Admission and activities! Throughout the day, visitors can create masterpieces to bring home at the Art Cart located in the Museum’s galleries. Join knowledgeable docents for an African-American Artists tour at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., the galleries will fill with the joyful songs of the Main Street Children’s Choir. More info here

Monday, Jan 20 (12 pm-4 pm): MLK Jr. Day of Reflection (Hartford, CT) :
Attend Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Reflection at South Congregational Church, 277 Main Street, Hartford from 12 – 4 p.m.  Join the community as everyone rotates through a series of discussions in which we address the connection between the Greater Hartford area and the important work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This event is open and free to the public and includes participants from the community as well as special performances by Studio 860 and Journey Writers, Inc. Space is limited!   • Town MLK celebration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in West Hartford
  • The Connecticut Science Center is OPEN during Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend. Also, full day Vacation Exploration Camp on Monday, 1/20.
  • Disney On Ice presents Celebrate Memories will be performing at the XL Center in Hartford with an added daytime show on Monday’s school day off.
  • National Liberty Bell Ringing Celebration “Let Freedom Ring” takes place at 12 Noon. at the State Capitol in Hartford.
  • The 30th annual National Bell Ringing will be atthe University of Connecticut, School of Law) and musical performances.
