Let’s get started on apple picking in CT! One of our favorite times of year because we get to enjoy all things fall! Travel around with us, please — give us your updates on Facebook and together we can share how to feed ourselves better, keep active with our kids, and support local farmers and businesses.
A solid resource is the CT Department of Agriculture’s list of CT Pick-Your-Own Farms – apples are considered a large fruit so look for “LF” next to each farm. We’ve been to many so don’t hesitate to email us at contact@3.238.224.37 for input. Have you been to Karabin Farms or Rogers Orchards, to name two? Best is to check Facebook pages for updates or call.
A reliable farm with a huge variety of fruit and vegetables is Easy Pickin’s Orchard in Enfield – peaches are still available (yum).
Organic farms can now be found in CT! The state’s list can be found at http://www.ct.gov/doag/cwp/view.asp?a=3260&q=431072. If you find a “pick-your-own” organic farm please let us know!
Pick-your-own isn’t the only way to go — but definitely buy local for the freshest stuff, to patronize other entrepreneurs and our state’s economy! Check out this functional page of Connecticut Farms featured on Buy Locally CT which also lists Farmer’s Markets and local products — cute finds of all sorts.
