Celebrate the unofficial start of summer at Mystic Seaport’s Lobster Days in Mystic, CT, this Memorial Day weekend. Nothing says summer quite like fresh-cracked lobster, and this waterfront family attraction is the ideal place to feast on this quintessentially New England meal! Savor lobster in the rough under the open-air Boat Shed, and enjoy views of boats cruising on the Mystic River and music of the sea.
Monday pay tribute to fallen Civil War soldiers during Decoration Day at the Seaport. Service at noon in the Greenmanville Church at noon, followed by a procession to Chubb’s Wharf for the playing of “Taps” and a wreath-laying ceremony upon the Mystic River.

What better place to experience Connecticut’s rich history than in Old Wethersfield, birthplace of the U.S. Cavalry for Heritage Weekend? Start with the town’s traditional Memorial Day Parade at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, then head to the grounds of the Keeney Center, where kids will love meeting Revolutionary War reenactors and seeing horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse (Washington’s elite mounted troops, founded in Wethersfield in 1776) and Doughty’s Artillery participate in patrols, mounted and dismounted military demonstrations, artillery drills and a cannon salute to veterans. The Keeney Memorial Cultural Center will be open free for visitors to enjoy historical exhibits. Across the street, the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum hosts a Revolutionary War Encampment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring the chance to interact with members of the Fifth Connecticut Regiment in full colonial costume. After the regiment partakes of its midday meal, children will be invited to learn to march and perform drills with wooden “muskets.” The British are expected to attack at 1 p.m. Admission to the encampment is free; regular admission rates apply for optional museum tours.
