Makerspace: a community of artists, technologists, and entrepreneurs for hands-on innovation.

Libraries have always been a place for encouraging creativity through literature and reading; and for some time have hosted hands-on educational, learning programs for young children. Now they are public leaders in the “maker world” by establishing makerspaces in their facilities free and open to all!  Kidtivity.com will soon list their dates on our Event Calendar to bring the information to you. The Westport Library is now in its third year and has expanded, thanks to a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). View their upcoming Maker events and activities for both teens and kids!

In addition to libraries MakerSpaces in CT have been started by private clubs and small organizations to offer their facilities to the general public for a fee.

MakeHartford is Hartford, CT’s first makerspace, however, it’s not geared to children.

Fortunately Fairfield County Maker’s Guild is!  In addition to tech stuff, it boasts a craft area and hosts monthly Craft Night, the second Thursday of every month for

MakeHaven offers public events as well as member events in the areas of mechanics, electronics, crafts, digital art, biology and woodworking for makers, creators, tinkerers and dreamers.
