Space Expo 2017

Space Expo at New England Air Museum visitors will experience aerospace science and technology up close through a variety of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and presentations, as well as meet pioneers from the aerospace industry. Connecticut’s own NASA Astronaut Rick Mastracchio will participate. In addition a chance to have a close encounter with the right stuff, this action packed day offers an array of hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Visitors can try on a space suit, interface with a number of aerospace exhibitors, meet some well known intergalactic droids and characters, view planetarium shows, fly a Space Shuttle simulator at the NEAM Virtual Flight Center, touch a space rock, participate in out of this world experiments and science demonstrations, build and launch straw rockets, and much more!

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.      SPACE EXPO Exhibitors
Meet scientists, engineers, and space enthusiasts from local aerospace companies and organizations.
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.     Computerized Flight Simulators
Take to the imaginary skies flying a Cessna 172 with NEAM’s computer flight simulators.
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     Open Cockpit Experiences
Climb into the cockpits of historic aircraft with help from the NEAM Team.
10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     STARLAB: Portable Planetarium Shows
Experience the night sky under an inflatable dome. Shows begin every half hour, last 20 minutes, and accommodate up to 25 people. First come, first served. First show begins at 10:30 a.m. and last show begins at 2:30 p.m.
10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.     Build & Fly Challenge: Straw Rockets
Are you a rocket scientist? Test your engineering skills by designing, building and launching a straw rocket.
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.      Meet Star Wars Characters
Snap a selfie with the 501st Legion CT Garrison and the R2D2 Builders Club of CT.
10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.      National Weather Service Weather Briefings
Become Weather Ready with members of the NOAA National Weather Service. Briefings last 15-20 minutes.
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     Ercoupe Full Motion Flight Simulator
Take the controls aboard NEAM’s Ercoupe full motion flight simulator, and experience the roll, yaw, and pitch of a real airplane in flight.
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.     Virtual Flight Center
Experience the thrill of flight with NEAM’s advanced three screen yoke and pedal flight simulators.
Ages 10 and older, $5.00 per person per 30 minute flight. Flights available on a first come, first served basis. Last flights begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets available for purchase at Admissions Counter the day of the event.

Group Admission:  You may purchase discounted group admission for Space Expo. Your group must have 10 or more participants to qualify for the group admission rate. Groups must arrive together at check-in. Registration is non-refundable and payment must be received by April 2, 2018. The group rates are $13 for adults ages 15 and up, and $8 for youth ages 4-14. The New England Air Museum is the largest aviation museum in New England comprised of three large public hangars, outdoor exhibits, and more than 100 aircraft ranging from early airships and flying machines to supersonic jets and helicopter. NEAMs mission is to celebrate and preserve New England’s air and space heritage. The museum offers special events and programs including open cockpits, flight simulators, and tons of hands-on family fun.
