Space Expo

Space Expo at New England Air Museum visitors will experience aerospace science and technology up close through a variety of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and presentations, as well as meet pioneers from the aerospace industry.

Joseph Tanner earned his Navy pilot wings in 1975 flying A7-E aircraft and serving as an advanced jet instructor pilot before joining NASA in 1984. He is a veteran of four space missions and seven spacewalks, and has logged over 9,000 hours in military and NASA aircraft.

In addition a chance to have a close encounter with the right stuff, this action packed day offers an array of hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Visitors can try on a space suit, interface with a number of aerospace exhibitors, meet some well known intergalactic droids and characters, view planetarium shows, fly a Space Shuttle simulator at the NEAM Virtual Flight Center, touch a space rock, participate in out of this world experiments and science demonstrations, build and launch straw rockets, and much more!

Lectures: 11:00a.m. and 12:30p.m.
Meet and Greet: 1:30-3:30p.m.
  • Meet life-size droids and intergalactic characters
  • Take flight at the NEAM Virtual Flight Center
  • View a planetarium show in an inflatable dome
  • Build and launch a straw rocket
  • Make a marshmallow constellation
  • Try on a space helmet
  • Design a space mission patch
  • Touch a meteorite, and more!
Ages 10 and older, $5.00 per person per 30 minute flight. Flights available on a first come, first served basis. Last flights begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets available for purchase at Admissions Counter the day of the event.

Unless otherwise noted all events and activities are included with general admission and are subject to change. Please note that library passes are not valid on this event day.

The New England Air Museum is the largest aviation museum in New England comprised of three large public hangars, outdoor exhibits, and more than 100 aircraft ranging from early airships and flying machines to supersonic jets and helicopter. NEAMs mission is to celebrate and preserve New England’s air and space heritage. The museum offers special events and programs including open cockpits, flight simulators, and tons of hands-on family fun.
