September means it’s time to discover new enrichment opportunities for your child (and you?)!  After school programs are not limited to sports and each child needs a balance – don’t forget to find the “inner” actor, or artist, or geek, or . . .  Take a moment and open this quick article presented by the CT After School Network to learn “The Value of High-Quality After School Programs.”

Tell us what you’re interested and we’ll help you research “What Kids Want to Do”! Here are our current picks:

Performing arts challenges and inspires all ages (adult classes offered, also) so contact the talented educators at Hartford Stage. It is also a way to “build community and citizenship, to promote a passion for literacy and create expression, and to encourage life-long learning.”  Fall classes start Saturday, 9/21 – they are listed on our Event Calendar and you can save 10% with Kidtivity.com (mention “kidtivity” when you register). Ask for a copy of their flyer and we’ll email it to you!

Art projects can made be created in a weekly club format Friday after school at Pottery Piazza.  Or find a Let’s Gogh class at a school near you.  Pottery on the wheel should definitely be explored with Gildersleeve Pottery in Collinsville.

Hands-on learning continues after school for one hour with Mad Science‘s Secret Agent Lab – CSI, Detectives and Spy Gadgets, OH MY!  at specific schools around the state and Western MA – find a program near you.

Don’t forget to find out what your town offers and the ones surrounding (sometimes there isn’t even a difference in fees for non residents!) – high price doesn’t mean best quality so weigh your options.   There is also the YMCAs and 4-H Clubs (look under “Local” to find the county organization near you) around the state to research.
