The world around us is blooming and farms are opening their doors! Weekend farm events May 16-17 celebrate community and the beginning of a new growing season:
Farm Festival and Seedling Sale at the Common Ground urban farm and environmental center in New Haven. Upcoming programs to put on your calendar include Farm Days for Young Children, and the next Family Cooks on the Farm 5/23.
Spring on the Farm Festival Weekend at Stamford Museum & Nature Center through Sunday. Watch as the flock of sheep gets its annual shearing and learn about what happens with their wooly coats. See firsthand how to turn wool into felt or yarn, among a variety of other hands-on demonstrations. There will be activities for all ages including storytelling, face painting, crafts, live music, and a plant and herb sale.
Connecticut Spring Open House with H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut in Washington features pony rides for small children, from 12Noon-2 p.m.; tack sale in the new tack barn plus silent auction.
Sunday, 5/17
Spring Fling at historic French Farm in Greenwich. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family with sheep shearing, spinning and beekeeping demonstrations, an heirloom vegetable plant sale and music by the bluegrass/swing band. (starts Saturday)
