Observe Classes for Free at Guilford Art Center during “Picture Yourself at GAC” Week
The arts are good for kids (just like vegetables, but a whole lot more fun!). Check out the kids’ art classes and workshops on offer at Guilford Art Center. Children can work with clay, painting, drawing, animation, sewing, metals and so much more. There are even classes just for teens, including blacksmithing, knitting and digital sculpting. Not sure if you are ready to sign up? — take advantage of the Free Observation Week from Monday, November 7 – Saturday, November 12. The public is invited to see the studios, meet instructors and experience the welcoming class environment at GAC. No registration is required, but you should call ahead to make sure a class is running (203-453-5947). And there are plenty of art classes for mom and dad too! See all the classes online at www.guilfordartcenter.org; register online or call the office with any questions (203) 453-5947.
Guilford Art Center opens its classrooms to anyone who would like to visit, see the studios, meet instructors and fellow students, and experience the class environment at GAC. Classes are offered for adults and children in a range of mediums, including blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber arts, metalsmithing, painting, drawing and more.
“So many people are curious about taking classes here, but are sometimes nervous or intimidated about getting started because they don’t know what a class will be like,” says Maureen Belden, GAC Executive Director. “We want to give people the opportunity to sit through a class, so they can literally picture themselves as a student at GAC and get really comfortable with that. We know they’ll discover this is a very warm and welcoming place to learn, explore and have a lot of fun with a great group of people.”
All GAC class information can be found online at www.guilfordartcenter.org. No registration or payment is necessary for class observation, however, people should contact the office to make sure a class is running.
Note: This opportunity is valid for one week (Nov 7-12) for classes only (no workshops).

About Guilford Art Center
The Guilford Art Center is a non-profit school, shop and gallery established to nurture and support excellence in the arts. Through classes for adults and children, gallery programs, a shop of contemporary crafts, and special events, the Center fulfills its mission to provide opportunities for the public to participate in the arts, to experience their cultural and historical diversity, and to appreciate the process and product of creative work. It receives support from the Connecticut Dept. of Economic and Community Development. Founded in 1967 (as the Guilford Handcraft Center), the Center evolved from the first Handcraft Expo, held on the Guilford Green in 1957. It currently serves over 2,000 students in classes, presents juried and invitational exhibits of art in the Center’s gallery and operates a shop of fine, handmade American crafts year-round. The Center also presents the Craft Expo, held on the Guilford Green each year in July, that features works by more than 180 of the country’s most distinguished artisans and is a much-anticipated annual event for the shoreline community.
