Sensory-Friendly Ballet The Nutcracker will be performed at The Bushnell on Sunday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m.
We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the positive impact of the arts. Through our Community Enrichment Program (CEP), we strive to reach as many people as possible to make dance classes, and opportunities to attend professional-caliber live performance accessible. BTC is proud to offer a Sensory-Friendly performance of The Nutcracker that will provide a safe, judgment-free, relaxed environment for those who have a disability or any other types of challenges that may make them feel uncomfortable at a “typical” performance.
The Sensory-Friendly performances of each show will provide a safe, judgment-free, relaxed environment for those who have sensory or any other types of challenges that may make them feel uncomfortable at a “typical” performance.
Usually, performances are inherently sensory-rich and may need to be adapted for those with sensory challenges. Minor adjustments, when warranted, can alleviate many of the expected stressors and create an atmosphere that is more enjoyable for all. Music and on stage sounds will be lowered, low level lighting will be maintained for the audience and adjustments to the production will be made to ensure everyone’s comfort.
Most importantly, the other patrons and staff are more likely to be understanding if a patron who has sensory challenges exhibits a reaction to the performance.
BTC is proud to collaborate with its long-time partner, The Miracle League of Connecticut, to provide the best experience for all attendees through The Sensory-Friendly Ballet.
