Become a FrogWatch USA Volunteer for the Zoo at Roger Wiliams Park Zoo!
Did you know that Amphibian species are disappearing at an alarming rate across the globe due to a number of factors such as habitat loss, pollution, and disease. You can help save our frogs be becoming a citizen scientist with FrogWatch USA. Great for families with children 8+.
Trainings to Become a FrogWatch USA Volunteer for the Zoo cover the importance of amphibians in the environment including:
• How to monitor the local populations;
• How to choose a site to monitor;
• How to tell frog species apart by their calls; and,
• How to report findings to FrogWatch USA.
Once training is complete, all participants must pass a test identifying frog calls. Newly certified citizen scientists then commit to monitoring a local amphibian habitat (such as a pond or lake) approximately once a week for about 15 minutes, and collecting/submitting data on what they hear. Data collected will be added to a national FrogWatch USA database.
Important note about Become a FrogWatch USA Volunteer for the Zoo: trainings will cover a large amount of information and protocols. While frog watching is a great after-dark family activity for all ages, the trainings are designed for interested older children and adults.

Saturday, March 3 1:30 – 4:00 p,m.
Sunday March 4 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Cost: $10/household (up to 2 adults and 2 children)
