We’re in for a treat! On April 8, a Solar Eclipse will pass over a large part of North America– and we’ll see about 90-95% totality (as long as the weather is nice- here’s hoping!)
Lots of CT organizations are getting into the Eclipse Spirit- we’re talking museums, farms, libraries, the Science Center, and SO MANY MORE!
One thing you’ll definitely want? Eclipse glasses! You can buy your own, but tons of organizations are giving out glasses- see our list below for a chance to snag some.
Eclipse Safety:
- NASA has some great resources– including a tutorial on how to make a Pinhole Projector!
- Scientific American has great resources on avoiding eclipse glasses scams, and a list of companies that make safe glasses!
Where to See the Eclipse:
Visit the Connecticut Science Center
Head to the Connecticut Science Center on April 8 for a live eclipse viewing! Enjoy engaging activities, family fun (like cool movies), see WFSB live track the Eclipse, and watch a live stream of totality from the theater.
Eclipse glasses included with admission, but you must purchase the tickets in advance.
Head to the State Parks
Any state park will have cool viewing, but if you head to Harkness Memorial State Park, there’s a whole FREE event going on just for the eclipse!
See the Eclipse from the Water
Head out onto the river with the CT River Museum for a Partial Eclipse viewing cruise. Viewers will receive glasses and enjoy a unique showing of the event!
Head to Museums:
Mystic Seaport is offering free eclipse kits as well as tons of activities in the Planetarium. Stepping Stones Museum has tons of fun activities and demonstrations that are just perfect for kids.
