Weekend Family Events June 5-7 include our great outdoors in honor of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, family musical festivals, farm tours, art exhibits and fun runs.

Friday, 6/5

Cajun Zydeco Festival at Strawberry Park Resort Campground in Preston continues Thursday-Sunday.

Saturday, 6/6

Annual Children’s Book Festival at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book in nearby (only 1 hour from Hartford on I91!) quintessential  New England Northhampton, Mass.

National Trails Day® is celebrated  by our Connecticut Forest & Park Association – check out the schedule of events for the entire weekend!  Visit some of our state’s beautiful museums also during this celebration, for example, The Butler-McCook Garden and its small woodlands trail tour is free (regular admission applies for house tour) or another Connecticut Landmark’s property Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden offers a walk with the Bethlehem Land Trust. *FREE*

Celebrate the 260th birthday of Connecticut’s State Hero — Nathan Hale! Special activities include: FREE tours of the first floor of the Homestead & discounted tours of the 2nd floor and attic; flag raising at noon with a reading about Nathan Hale; birthday cake and lemonade served until 2 pm. Stay and enjoy the Coventry Regional Farmers’ Market! *FREE*

Try over 15 different sporting activities A Sporting Chance for Youth Day at Riverside Park in Hartford: cricket, golf, hockey, flag football, fishing, climbing wall, volleyball, soccer, basketball, running, and nature walks. Learn about the parks alongside the Connecticut River, and the fields and space available for recreation and relaxation. Each participant receives a t-shirt, a healthy lunch, and a sporting/outdoors related item. Youth receive ribbons for each activity in which they participate. *FREE*

Connecticut Farm & Folk Festival celebrates the rich farming heritage of Connecticut, featuring two stages of music, a dozen gourmet food trucks, a 30-vendor farmer’s market, and the “Farm & Folk Pub.”

Sunday, 6/7

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is an 118-acre former estate of Henri Bendel.  Families can enjoy walking the woodland trails, viewing the working farm, gaze at the farm animals just a few steps away.  Take advantage of this great outdoor wonder and kick off this year’s season with fun family activities and a chance to get some tasty local treats from our favorite farm market vendors.
