Connecticut Science Center (Hartford, CT)

Calling all Military families! The Connecticut Science Center is honoring service personnel all weekend long, starting on November 9 with FREE General Admission for Veterans and Active Duty Military. This includes reservists and retired personnel. Accompanying family will also receive 50% off their General Admission. Bring everyone out for a day of FUN! Explore four floors of hands-on science with more than 165 hands-on exhibits, including our new permanent exhibition Our Changing Earth and new traveling exhibit, Mazes & Brain Games.

Please note, the Science Center will be CLOSED on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11.

A Tribute to our Veterans, Servicemen & Servicewomen (New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks, CT)

Bring your family for this opportunity to meet & talk one-on-one with veterans of military conflicts. Included in the program will be re-enactors from WWII, Visitors to the Museum will have representatives from Soldier On, and CT Veterans Affairs office. An area will be set aside for children to make holiday cards for our veterans.

At 12:30 p.m. Serene Hackle will be speaking on her book Skipper Goes to War. A heartwarming tale of a beloved Cocker Spaniel and his relationship with a B-17 bomber crew in the thick of World War II.

Visitors are encouraged to bring new personal hygiene products that will be donated to a local veterans’ home.

The Nutcracker Carnival (West Hartford, CT)

The Nutcracker Carnival is coming to town! Hosted by Kingswood Oxford school in West Hartford, join the fun and play Nutcracker inspired carnival games including Russian Ring Toss, Sugar Plum Pop, Olè Chocolatè, Knock ‘Em Down, and more! Carnival goers will also be able to get their picture taken with Clara, their faces painted at Fritz’s Fave Paint, and decorate their very own Snowflake ornament to take home! Come prepared to win amazing prizes such as gift cards and free tickets to BTC’s production of The Nutcracker!

Fall into Fun Family Weekend II (Bridgeport, CT)

Spend time outdoors with your family in the Zoo this weekend and enjoy  the last few days of fall before it gets too chilly!
With a fun maze to navigate, story-times, scavenger hunts, Critter Chats, face painting, crafts, pumpkin pie and apple cider, all in celebration of fall, it’s the weekend families won’t want to miss. Children can also meet Storybook Princesses who will be signing autographs and posing for photos from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on November 9 and 10. Please check the detail schedule here
Guests will enjoy seeing the dozens of decorated scarecrows on the lawn in front of the Victorian Greenhouse and hear Animal Talks from the Zoo’s Education staff.

On Monday, November 11, veterans receive free admission, with a 20% discount for their families.

 

Phantom Trail Half Marathon/10K and Trail One-Miler (Winding Trails, Farmington CT)

The Monster Mile is a one-mile trail run open to all ages. Costumes are encouraged (there will be awards!!). The Trail Half Marathon/10K is a timed race with a 2-person relay team option for the Half Marathon.

All registered athletes will receive a T-shirt, Finishing Medal, and Swag.

Starting this year, the Phantom Trail Race will be working with the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter to raise awareness and funds for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. All proceeds from the Phantom Trail Half Marathon and Monster Mile will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association

Neighborhood Toy Store Day (New Britain, CT)

Join your neighborhood toy store – Amato’s, for a fun Saturday and support your local neighborhood businesses to help the community. There will be Activity Stations for all ages, raffles, giveaways throughout the day. Lunch from Roma’s of New Britain will be served from Noon-2!

Please bring a non-perishable food item for our local food pantry and be entered in a drawing for a Made in the USA Beka Double-Sided Easel.

 

Playful Learners Playgroup at Imagine Nation (Bristol, CT)
