A great reason to shop local for Back to School stuff – Tax Free Week CT!  The annual “One-Week Sales and Use Tax Exclusion for Clothing and Footwear” (costing less than $300) runs from Sunday, August 23 through Saturday, August 29.
You can save the 6.35 %t sales tax on most clothing and shoe purchases priced under $300 (dollar limits are per item).  For examples of clothing listed by the Department of Revenue Services. Connecticut’s sales tax holiday week applies to clothing and footwear only.  Be careful – clothing and footwear used in sporting activities, and accessories such as jewelry, watches, handbags, and wallets are still taxable. Clothing or shoes placed in layaway during the sales tax holiday will be exempt from tax, even if you don’t pay off the layaway until after the tax free week is over. Purchases on clothes or footwear by mail, phone or the Internet are also nontaxable.

We have some more ideas for this time of year online like Haircuts for Kids . . .  and a special event at the Science Center!

There is still time to explore in August — find activities in our Event Calendar.
