Hartford’s Disney On Ice Opening Night Review Says Buy Tickets Now!

Me and my 3 kids, ages 4, 11, and 12, were lucky enough to attend Disney On Ice: Worlds of Enchantment on Opening Night at the XL Center in Hartford.  I’m not sure who was more excited, me or the kids!  I have always been a huge fan of all things Disney.  During my college years, I was a Cast Member at Walt Disney World, working as an Attractions Hostess at Living With the Land boat ride at EPCOT Center.  We are fortunate enough to have taken the kids to Walt Disney World a handful of times and my family enjoys the attractions and performances.  I have never been to a Disney On Ice show, so I was looking forward to it!

When we walked into the XL Center, there were Disney touches even before entering with our tickets.  There were two photo areas to take pictures for a fee, complete with cardboard cutouts of characters.  One was Mickey and Minnie and the other was Elsa.  I decided to get this souvenir to remember our special evening.  My daughter was dressed in her Elsa princess costume and her smile was enormous as she stood with her brothers along with a cardboard cutout of Elsa and ice castle backdrop.  There were also vendors selling all things Disney, including light up wands and spinning toys.  The excitement was growing as we entered the arena.

While we waited for the show to begin, my daughter was dancing along to a selection of Disney songs.  Once the show began, we were already feeling the Disney magic.  Upon the opening, Mickey and Minnie came out on the ice.  They were followed by Donald Duck and Goofy.

After Mickey and Friends left the ice, the characters from Toy Story hit the ice.  Beloved characters took to the ice, like Woody, Buzz, Jessie and all of the life-sized toys.  The green army men were really cool according to my 12 year old son.  One even parachuted onto the ice!

There was a brief intermission after the first hour of the show.  During the intermission, a selection of Disney songs played, so my daughter danced the whole time!  After intermission, Mickey and Friends came back on the ice.  They introduced the next act, which included the characters from Cars.  Lightening McQueen, Tow Mater, and many other cars drove around the ice.

The next act was characters from the Little Mermaid.  In true Disney style, the ice was filled with bubbles and lighting effects to make you feel like you were under the sea with Ariel and Friends.

The final segment of the show included Elsa, Anna, Olaf and friends.  The ice was transformed to Arendelle, with an icy feel.  There was even an Ice Castle during one segment that my daughter loved.  All 3 kids were mesmerized as it snowed on the ice.  At one point, Elsa’s dress lit up and my 4 year old shouted, “Look at her dress.  She’s beautiful!”

I expected the music to be all Disney songs (which we love), but I was wrong.  During several of the performances, classic songs were played, like “Life is a Highway” during part of the Cars segment.  Of course, there were tons of Disney favorites to sing along to.

I had high expectations for the show and we were all captured in the Disney Magic throughout the whole show.  Me and my kids would highly recommend Disney on Ice to kids of all ages.

Here are the reviews from my two sons and daughter, Kelly Keough, Mom:

My 12 year old: “It’s Disney.  Of course it’s good”

“I was expecting the show to be for younger kids, but it wasn’t.  I had fun!”

“I loved the Toy Story part.  The life-sized toys were cool!”

My 11 year old: “The best part was during Toy Story.  I liked when Ken and Barbie were dancing and they did a fashion show.  Ken changed his clothes so quick!”

My 4 year old: “This is amazing!!  You’re the best mom ever!”

I’m grateful that I was able to attend this show with my kids.  I’m sure the 4 of us will remember the fun and magic of the night for years to come
