School may have started for some but summer fun isn’t officially over yet!  #familytime Events in CT August are happy times at agricultural fairs and harvest events! We know that every activity can’t be done or every place visited but our goal is to give you choices:

Friday, August 28

Annual Balloon Festival hosted by Plainville Fire Company through Sunday offers a rare opportunity to watch the ginormous hot air balloons launch at Friday’s Balloon Glow at dusk followed by fireworks around 9:15 p.m.; then Balloons launch both Saturday and Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m.

Brooklyn Fair Thursday through Sunday

Agricultural Fairs are the “Best Family Entertainment Value in Connecticut”! Use the Association of Connecticut Fairs website as your weekly resource:  this weekend it’s Hartford County 4-H Fair at the Four Towns Fairgrounds in Somers through Sunday. Enjoy interesting exhibits, meet animals, yummy food presented by 4-H’s Youth Development outreach program.  Enter to win a season pass on their Facebook page.

Chester Fair a major agricultural fair with livestock/animal shows and pulls, garden tractor pull, flowers, arts and crafts, baking contests, midway, children’s games, musical entertainment, lots of food through Sunday.

Terryville Lions Country Fair at the Fairgrounds in Plymouth is a truly old-fashioned country fair with cattle, dairy, horse, and goat shows; racing pigs, wood chopping contest, tractor pull, fireworks on Friday and Saturday night, exhibits, arts and crafts through Sunday.

The Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies, will feature a top notch women’s field ends tomorrow, Friday 8/29.

Saturday, August 29

Grand Opening Celebration of The Farmer’s Cow Corn Maze Adventure at Fort Hill Farms in  Thompson

Schemitzun on the Mashantucket Reservation presents authentic Native food favorites or watch the exhibition dancers and contestants move with skill and power to the ancient rhythms of the grandfather drum through Sunday.

Monarch Butterfly Tagging at the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem is a unique #familytime activity! Learn about the monarch butterfly migration and how we tag monarchs for scientific research. FREE however donations appreciated to support the program

Sunday, August 30

U.S. Coast Guard Dixieland Jazz Band performs at the New London City Pier, Waterfront Park @ 3 p.m. FREE
