Scholastic K-8 Chess Program

September 24, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

$110

Chess is exercise for the mind, like athletics are exercise for the body. Engaging in chess activity provides students the opportunity to develop the mind and patterns of thinking not otherwise offered or encountered. Today, chess is recognized as an important curricular supplement for core intellectual growth, providing an advantage for education and future life endeavors. Luckily, it is also a fun and engaging game for children and adults!
The focus of our Scholastic K-8 Chess Program is to present the subject, appropriately, as a learning and growth process with a touch of competitive flair in a comfortable, social environment. Our instruction-based chess program for students grades K through 8 — beginners welcome — is presented by award-winning chess instructor and coach, Alexander Lumelsky. The program offers class instruction on chess play and strategy and is intended for players of all and no prior skill or experience. The program also features supervised practice play, over-the-board instruction, possible in-club competition play, and opportunity for play in formal competitions.
Mr. Lumelsky is the organizer and coach/instructor of several award-winning West Hartford chess programs. He has coached elementary and middle school students to 40+ team and 100+ individual titles and champion honors at state and national levels.
