Pirate Day at the Hempsted Houses

Batten down the hatches – pirates are coming to the Hempsted Houses! Enjoy a day of all things pirate, and learn about the Hempsted family connections to pirates and privateers that once sailed the Sound and strolled the streets of New London.
Meet members of The Crew of the Raven, local pirates who will share with you their stories, show off their gear, and perform firing demonstrations throughout the day. Put your pirate skills to the test with a scavenger hunt around the Hempsted grounds, and purchase some plundered colonial items from Big Bear Trading Company. Budding shipwrights can craft their own toy boat. Learn about the Hempsted family that witnessed all the salty characters and tales of New London’s maritime past.
Admission is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5 per person. Registration for timed entry is required at https://hempsted-pirate-day-2020.eventbrite.com. Attendees may arrive at any time within their registered time block. Day-of event registration will be allowed only if the site has not reached capacity. In order to protect the health of our staff, visitors, and community, all visitors must wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. The historic house museum interior will remain closed to the public during the Pirate Day event.
