Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Dance
January 20, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm$25 – $35
The Connecticut Dance Alliance will be hosting its MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF DANCE again on JANUARY 20, 2020 at CREC’s Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, 15 Vernon Street, Hartford, CT from 9am – 3pm.
The annual event honors the teachings and legacy of Dr. King as well at the abundant African American contributions to the world of dance. This year’s theme Legends, Legacy and Lineage focuses on dance classes in many forms – ballet, modern dance, Afro-Caribbean, stilt walking and jazz. The event also focuses on elements of collaboration, history and educating the participants on the experiences of people of color in the dance world.
We will be hosting master classes, a student session on applying to college dance programs, a CDA regional meeting for adults and a panel discussion with our guests about the African American experience in dance.
We are thrilled to welcome the following artists …
New York City musical theater veteran Stephanie Pope (Fosse), former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company Kim Stroud (Graham), New Haven’s Christine Kershaw (Horton), and Hartford artists Stephen Hankey (Afro Caribbean) and Mellissa Craig ( Introduction to Stilt Walking).
