The holiday season is here and we want to give back to our community during these difficult economic times! The need for coats has greatly increased, and we want to make sure that everyone keeps warm this winter. Coat Drives for Connecticut help others in need at the start of the colder weather, winter season. Donate used or new winter clothing – help others keep warm through Kidtivity.com!

  • You can help provide winter clothing to the New London community by donating at one of our donation drop-off locations

    on or before December 15.  The Hempsted Houses are partnering with the Homeless Hospitality Center in New LondonFiddleheads Food Co-op, and OIC of New London to help give the gift of warmth this winter season.

    • New hats (all sizes)
    • New gloves (all sizes)
    • New and gently-used coats (all sizes)  *Donations of children’s winter coats are especially appreciated.*
  • Button Up Connecticut is a large and longstanding coat drive.  Local CT residents, local organizations, large companies collect new and gently used coats and distribute to the those in need.  Dan Siracusa of Siracusa Moving and Storage started Button Up Connecticut in 1992.  In the last 20 years, over 150,000 coats have been distributed to CT men, women, and children.  Individuals and organizations like shelters, churches, food pantries can make requests for coats.  Siracusa’s Moving offers their warehouse at 250 Commerce Circle, New Britain, CT 06051. Coats will be distributed from the warehouse in New Britain by appointment only. For large companies or schools with collections greater than 100 coats they can arrange a pickup.
  • Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. in Waterbury is hosting a collection of new or gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, socks and thermals. (new socks and thermals only).
  • Many businesses around the state including national retailers like J. Crew, Lands’ End are participating in One Warm Coat, is a national cloud-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 74-3045243) that provides free coats to children and adults in need while promoting volunteerism and environmental sustainability.
