Did  you know that Read Across America Day is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’s birthday?  So Dr. Seuss Birthday Events 2017 are a time to learn and play! The National Education Association or NEA Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. The Seussical celebration will kick off a week of reading across the nation as NEA members gather students, parents, and community members together to share their love of reading.

Be a Volunteer Reader on Read Across America Day with United Way! In Southeastern CT you can read to a child in an area school – to get involved contact sarah.mcdermott@uwsect.org or 860-464-3323.  For the past two years, the Connecticut Judicial Branch has participated in this wonderful celebration by arranging for judges to read to elementary school students. In just two years, 64 judges have read to more than 6,000 students at 62 different schools. Hurry ask to arrange for a judge to come to your school, contact the External Affairs Division at 860-757-2270 or external.affairs@jud.ct.gov.
